LOVE YOU MADLY – ARTISTS FOR SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS FIRE RELIEF
An Online Awareness & Fundraising Campaign

BACKGROUND
Santa Cruz County has been deeply impacted by the CZU Lightning Complex Fire, a historic wildfire resulting in the evacuation of 77,000 people, covering over 80,000 acres, and destroying ~600 structures. As of August 27 this wildfire is 24% contained (update: 76% as of 9/7) and the most destructive fire in Santa Cruz County history.
A group of locals are collaborating to create an online music and visual arts campaign to raise awareness and donations for the recovery process, which is estimated to take 13 years. Our partner, Community Foundation Santa Cruz County (CFSCC), has already raised over a half million dollars for their Fire Response Fund and has the experience needed to collect and strategically distribute funds where they are most needed throughout the recovery. WHAT WE ARE ASKING
We are seeking artists with a connection to Santa Cruz – through personal history, or as a regular and beloved stop on tours– who are willing to film and share a song performance with a short message of support that we can include as part of this campaign. We welcome visual artists (poster artists, painters, and more) to share works – new and old – to be included in the campaign.
For messages of support, we ask for a short (30-sec) video covering 3 topics: (1) express your support for those impacted by the CZU Lightning Complex fire (2) share something personal about your connection with Santa Cruz (lived, performed, vacationed here, or even just share a love for it), and (3) encourage people to donate to the Fire Response Fund.
LAUNCH AND FUNDING DETAILS
We will launch the campaign the week of Sep 14 with over a collection of national, regional and local artists. Additional releases will follow each week for many months to draw continued attention to ongoing rebuilding and recovery efforts. #LoveYouMadly #SantaCruzFireRefief
All content will be available free to the public and link directly to the Community Foundation Santa Cruz County’s Fire Response Fund. We are not taking any money ourselves. CFSCC funds local non-profit organizations providing critical services across the county, providing shelter and long-term housing, economic and rental assistance, legal services, education, healthcare, and more.

HOW TO / SUPPORT
Filming: Videos can be filmed in a variety of ways – we are more interested in getting authentic and genuine performances and messages than we are in requiring everything to be professionally produced. An iPhone (landscape orientation, please) can do a wonderful job. If you have the capabilities to film at higher quality, all the better.
If you have any production (or other) questions that we can help with, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We want to make this as easy as possible for you, and appreciate you taking the time to show your support in Santa Cruz’s time of need.

iPHONE FILMING TIPS:
- If using a recent iPhone (6 and above), please use the rear-facing camera and set it to record at 4K/30fps (see this graphic for a simple how-to: https://9to5mac.com/2018/09/13/iphone-how-to-shoot-4k-video/)
- Lighting: Avoid backlighting that puts you in shadow
- Auto Focus: tap-hold on the screen to fix the focus to prevent it from changing while recording (this will also keep the lighting exposure from changing)
- Audio: Find a quiet place to record. If you have access to high quality microphones or a studio, please use them. We are happy to sync audio that is recorded separately to your video for you.
