Martha Spencer and the Wonderland Country Band
Martha Spencer is a singer-songwriter, mountain musician, and dancer from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She grew up playing with her family and their Whitetop Mountain Band. Playing with her family, she learned to play several instruments and also how to flatfoot/clog – all at a young age. Reviewers of her most recent album, Wonderland, have called it “traditional-tinted magic” (No Depression) and said it “demonstrates (her) ability to utilize musical tradition…with new and creative ideas.” (Bluegrass Today). Her friends Jamie Collins (bass/guitar), Lucas Pasley (fiddle/banjo), and Jake Dwyer (washboard) are the Wonderland Country Band. Martha has played shows, and festivals and led workshops across the US, Australia, the UK, and Europe. She also has been included in articles in the NY Times, Austin Chronicle, and Billboard and was a part of the Fiddlin’ documentary movie.
The Blue Ridge Girls
The trio includes Martha Spencer (guitar/fiddle), Jamie Collins (bass/guitar), and Brett Morris (banjo), playing a variety of original, old-time, bluegrass, and country songs. All three women grew up in musical families and are working to preserve and promote the rich musical heritage found in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Blue Ridge Girls traveled to historic Muscle Shoals, Alabama to record their first album, which is expected to be released in 2023.
