“Don’t forget to set your DVRs for this Thursday at 9:00 to watch local Chef Jessica Yarr, owner and Chef of The Grove Cafe and Bakery in Felton, and the 2023 Event Santa Cruz NEXTies Foodie of the Year, as she goes head to head with The Food Network’s very own Bobby Flay on the channel’s flagship show, “Beat Bobby Flay.” Judges for this episode are Chefs Anne Burrell and Eddie Jackson.

Talking to Yarr this morning, she emphasized that the show is 100% a pure, real cooking show. It’s not a reality show where they manipulate the situations to create theatrical TV magic.
For this episode, it was a pierogi battle. Yarr mentioned, “the pressure to make pierogi from dough to plate in 45 minutes was pretty intense.“
The show was actually filmed about a year ago, before The Grove Cafe and Bakery was even a thought in Yarr’s mind. At the time, she was focusing on Chicken Foot, an Eastern European-inspired, plant-forward pop-up. So a lot has changed since then in Yarr’s world. The Grove Cafe and Bakery is now a gem of the San Lorenzo Valley and loved by foodies (and even non foodies) far and wide.
Now, here is one of the best parts. Not only will we be able to see our local celebrity chef on national TV, but this week you can actually eat the featured dish—2 types of pierogi at The Grove Cafe and Bakery.
