Once upon a time in a land far away on a street named Pepper Place isn’t how this story begins, but it is how this story took a huge leap forward. It was a hot, dry place where the owner and designer Amy B. spent a lot of time thinking about what she wanted to do with her life. Flashback to when she was 6; Amy learned to sew and hated it. Then, when she was 13, she made her first bag and everything changed. She had found something that she loved doing–something that was worth creating. Many years later Amy B. was a Californian “stranded” in the Arizona desert and it was only then that she realized she needed to begin working towards her dream from many years before. In 2005, Pepper Place Design was born and named after the street where it was founded. Now, safely back home next door to the Pacific Ocean in Santa Cruz, California, Amy makes high-quality, mostly one-of-a-kind leather and canvas bags.
Hand-crafted of the highest quality materials, Pepper Place Design bags and accessories will get better with everyday use and love. Life is too short to carry a black bag, so we don’t make them.
It is important to us to reduce, reuse, recycle and to create products that are responsibly made and sourced. Pepper Place Design bags are made from leather that is sourced from dead stock leather suppliers (like the Thanksgiving leftovers of leather) and we love using vintage fabrics and parts whenever possible. All of our bags are sewn one-by-one by Amy B. in Santa Cruz, California.
