On August 31st, Alexandra the Author and Alwa Gordon will unveil their highly anticipated collaborative album, 10 Seconds Left. Years in the making, this project highlights the artistic evolution and growth of both artists, showcasing their development not only as lyricists but also in their vocal abilities. 10 Seconds Left is a testament to their strong friendship and shared experiences as single parents navigating the challenges of diversity, inclusion, and the pursuit of their musical dreams. It will be accompanied by an album release party/end of summer bash, at Woodhouse Brewery.
While the project is a tale of triumph, it was not without its unique challenges. Throughout the production, Alwa and Alexandra navigated housing stability, relationship changes, financial insecurity, and systemic roadblocks. Over the years, we saw Alexandra start a company “Soul Good Entertainment”, which is now up and running with a monthly residency at woodhouse brewery, which markets itself as a safe space for those of color in Santa Cruz to be and express themselves. As told by one attendee “this is a great place to be black at.” We saw Alwa be a part of a documentary regarding housing issues in Santa Cruz, in a piece that included the chief of police, which left a lasting impact on him, which produced one of the songs off the project. This project is a testament to the resilience, urgency, and tenacity of the both of them. To create beyond any set limitations, and to ensure they are grasping what they are owed. There is only “10 Seconds Left.”
